Shrews

Typical Damage/Nuisance Caused:
Shrews leave dead grass in spider-web or tree-limbed pattern in yards from
very frequent traveling.
They make small holes in yards, but especially in gardens where the ground is
softer and there are abundant insects.
Although they are the smaller cousin of the mole, they do not cause the
same underground tunneling as moles.
Shrews sometimes enter homes and their feces produces an acrid musty odor
if accumulated.

Shrews have sharp teeth with poisonous saliva to stun prey.
They are not rodents; they are carnivorous insectivores.
The Short-Tailed Shrew is very common in Michigan, and are often mistaken
for moles when dogs or cats bring them to the doorsteps.
